The Triangle is three cities sharing one climate and about six different kinds of floor. A 1920s house in Hayes Barton has hardwood over a crawlspace and a rug that has not been lifted since the last owner. A loft in a Durham tobacco warehouse has sealed concrete underfoot, brick either side and forty feet of window. A rented house off Franklin Street empties in May and sits out the whole of August with the cooling switched off. A house in Apex was finished last spring and has not yet had a summer. Same forty-five inches of rain, four completely unrelated ways for a rug to fail. These are the areas we collect from, and what tends to be waiting when we get there.

Hayes Barton

The most reliable way a serious rug gets hurt in Hayes Barton is a well-meant annual appointment.

Five Points

The porch is where rugs die here, precisely because it is used like an inside room.

Rug cleaning in Five Points

Historic Oakwood

Renovation dust in a house this old is chemically different from ordinary dust, which is what catches people out.

Rug cleaning in Historic Oakwood

Boylan Heights

The thing doing the damage here runs while nobody is home.

Rug cleaning in Boylan Heights

North Hills

Concrete does not stop drying when it stops being poured.

Rug cleaning in North Hills

Cary

A rug that has just crossed an ocean has usually had a worse month than a rug that has sat on a floor for ten years.

Rug cleaning in Cary

Apex

The washable rug has changed what people believe they can do at home, and the mistake that follows is expensive.

Rug cleaning in Apex

Chapel Hill

The rental cycle does the damage, and it does it between tenants rather than during them.

Rug cleaning in Chapel Hill

Trinity Park

Look for a hard grey line running parallel to a wall, or straight across the middle of a room, that does not wash out with the rest of the soil.

Rug cleaning in Trinity Park

Hope Valley

Rayon sold as silk is the most disappointing material we handle, and this is where it turns up.

Rug cleaning in Hope Valley

Morrisville

Almost every soaked rug we collect from a building like this arrived through a machine rather than through weather.

Holly Springs

A new house is not automatically a dry house, and in this climate it is frequently the opposite.
