What Morrisville is built from
Wake County ground between the airport and the research campuses, small until the 1990s and now largely apartments, townhouses and recent single-family subdivisions. The Morrisville problem
Almost every soaked rug we collect from a building like this arrived through a machine rather than through weather. Upstairs laundry is the usual culprit: a braided supply hose lets go, or a drain hose backs up, and the water goes through the floor into the room below and lands on a rug nobody is standing next to. A water heater in a second-floor closet does the same and takes longer to find. Two things matter more than the volume. The first is category: water that has crossed a floor, run through a ceiling cavity and come out of a light fitting is not clean supply water by the time it reaches wool, and it has to be flushed rather than dried. The second is who notices. In a rented unit the sequence runs tenant, then manager, then a restoration crew booked for the whole building — and a wet wool foundation in a warm room has roughly two days before mould establishes in it, which is often less time than that sequence takes. Get the rug up off the floor and out of the room on day one, whoever else is on their way.
